Teaching
I love to teach. It has become my newest passion in life. In no other ministry have I found such a close connection with God, nor have I ever felt so fulfilled. All the better when someone actually lets me get up in front of a group and do it!
Spring 2010
This spring, I have two opportunities to share with others what God has given me. Beginning on January 27, 2010, I will be part of a three-woman team teaching "If God Is In Control, Why Am I A Basketcase?", a study written by Debbie Taylor Williams. Sandi McCormick, Louise Polkinghorn and I will be walking through the Apostle Paul's Letter to the Colossians. It's a study I'm extremely excited about for more reasons than I have time here to express. In short, I believe that God has some wonderful healing opportunities for the women of our church through this study, and I'm thrilled to be even a small part of it! If you'd like to join us for the study, visit the FEFC web site for online registration and other details.
Also this spring, Dr. Mary Ellen Johnson and I have completed the curriculum for a study on "Messiah", focusing on the Scripture from Handel's masterpiece. I will be teaching the six-week series on Sunday mornings and on Tuesday evenings, beginning on February 14. We'll be focusing on Part Two of Handel's Messiah and a couple of excerpts from Part Three - the FEFC choir and orchestra will be performing these excerpts for the Easter Cantata on March 28. What a great way to walk through the Lenten season and prepare our hearts to celebrate Easter! I hope you'll join us - details on registration will be coming soon.
God's Healing Through Depression
It never ceases to amaze me how God takes something so miserable as depression and turns it completely around into the most beautiful freedom you can imagine. This has been my own experience, and as I've spoken with others about their pits, it's been their experience as well. Yes, it sucks when you're in the middle of it. But yes, God sees and knows and keeps His promise to bring beauty from the ashes. My heart is to encourage those who are in the middle of depression with the hope that God has purpose for their pain. Joy and freedom waits on the other side if we are willing to trust Him and believe what He says. His care is tender and His truth is sure. We just need to cling to Him with all we have and He will do the rest!
I've developed a four-week series on depression for Adult Bible Fellowships at my church. My notes, PowerPoints, video clips, and small groups questions are available below.
- Week 1: The Facts About Depression
- Week 2: Elijah's Depression - 1 Kings 19:1-18
- Week 3: The Blessings of Depression
- Week 4: How Do We Respond?
Detox In the Fall of 2008, I taught a 10-week women's Bible study called “Detox: Clearing the Way for Spiritual Wellness” which was written by Jackie Roese and Alice McQuitty from Irving Bible Church in Irving, Texas. Though the study homework material was written by others, I soon discovered that God had a unique message to give through me to the women of my church. You can listen to a few of my lectures from that series by choosing one of the links below:
Marriage
My husband and I taught a marriage series to two Adult Bible Fellowships at church based on the books For Men Only and For Women Only by Jeff and Shaunti Feldhahn. It was a blast for both of us to bring our personal experiences to bear on these wonderful books. We hope to have other opportunities to share this incredibly practical and helpful information with other married couples soon.
Other Topics
I am studying a number of other topics as well, and I'm looking forward to opportunities to share what I'm learning.
- Child-Like Faith in a Grown-Up World
- A Walk with Miriam: The Exodus through the Eyes of the Prophetess
- Get Rid of the Dragon: A Lesson on Forgiveness
- Giving All of the Pieces of Your Heart to God
